- Company number: NI693085

What we collect and why
Newsletter sign-ups
If you subscribe to our updates, we collect:
- your email address;
- a record of your consent: that you ticked the consent box, the exact wording you agreed to, the version of this policy in force, the page you signed up on, and the date and time.
We use this only to send you updates about our publications, courses and articles, and to show that you agreed. Our lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which is also what the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require for email marketing. You can withdraw your consent at any time and it will not affect anything done before then.
Visiting the website
Our website is hosted by GitHub Pages. When you visit, GitHub receives technical information such as your IP address and browser details so the pages can be delivered and the service kept secure. We do not receive or use this information ourselves. We do not currently run analytics on the site.
Cookies
We use one small cookie to remember your cookie choice. See our Cookie Policy for details.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We use these service providers to run the site:
- Google (Google Workspace / Google Sheets), which stores newsletter sign-ups on our behalf, as our processor.
- GitHub, which hosts the website, as described above.
If we add another provider (for example an email delivery service) we will update this policy first. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Transfers outside the UK
Google and GitHub may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer relies on UK adequacy regulations or appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address and consent record while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we remove your details, except that we keep your email address on a suppression list, together with the dates you consented and withdrew, so that we do not email you again and can show we handled your request properly.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
- ask for it in a portable format, where this applies; and
- withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.
To use any of these rights, or to unsubscribe, contact us using the details above. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
Our newsletter is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes to this policy
We will publish any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
